AGFC Lake Monticello Bass and Crappie Rules Back Trophy Rebound

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists say Lake Monticello is trending back toward its 1990s trophy-bass reputation after renovation, with spring sampling catch rates above the regional average and local reports of bass 8 pounds and larger.

For 2026, anglers may keep five bass, but only one may be 16 inches or longer. Crappie harvest is 15 daily, with only seven longer than 12 inches. Staff cite a booming forage base of threadfin shad, redear and bluegill fueling growth. Two bass over 10 pounds were documented in spring, including one Legacy Lunker before the March 31 cutoff. Full weekly conditions: AGFC fishing report.
