Dry Weather Keeps Arkansas Soybean and Rice Harvest at Record Pace

Dry weather is helping drive Arkansas soybean and rice harvests at a record pace for this point in the season, according to the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.

The Sept. 11 Crop Progress report said soybean harvest was 27% complete, the fastest pace on record for that week. Corn was 80% harvested and rice was 53% complete.

Extension specialists said a Southeast Arkansas farmer was preparing to harvest soybean fields planted in the first week of May. The report also cautioned that continued extreme dryness was weighing on rice milling yields.
