Pine Bluff Fire & Emergency Services is welcoming eight new recruits who are still in the beginning stages of training and have many weeks of work ahead before they can be assigned to street duty, the City of Pine Bluff announced through the Pine Bluff Commercial on Sept. 23.
A department photo released with the notice shows leadership including Chief Randy Compton alongside the incoming class. The Public Safety Committee had also heard that roughly nine new fire employees were expected within weeks, with annual inspection work past 87% completion for 2026 and new protective gear already on hand.
Recruit classes typically progress through academy coursework, skills evaluations and ride-alongs before independent response. Families and neighbors can watch city and department channels for academy graduation notices.
The addition comes as Mayor Vivian Flowers has stressed recruitment and retention for police and fire amid competition from higher-paying employers.
