Monticello Accepts $300,000 Grant for Airport AVGAS Fuel Tank

The Monticello City Council on Tuesday, July 28, unanimously accepted a $300,000 grant from the Arkansas Division of Aeronautics to purchase and install a new 12,000-gallon aviation gasoline (AVGAS) fuel tank at Monticello Municipal Airport.

Mayor Jason Akers also secured council authorization to apply for a $956,679 Delta Regional Authority grant that would replace water pumps at the Bankston Hall and Gibson stations and build a new pump station near Patriot Fuel. Council approved a $78,136 work order with A.L. Franks Engineering Inc. for a water line tying the roundabouts to U.S. Highway 278 along the bypass.

Akers reported the city’s 2024 Legislative Audit closed with no findings, praised staff preparing the audit, and recognized youth baseball teams that qualified for World Series play. Other business included a $4,000 Fire Department Conex for the burn-building training facility and a lien at 230 W. Jackson.
