Warren Council Advances DRA Grant Bid for Clingman–Pennington Truck Route

The Warren City Council voted 5–0 on Monday, Aug. 10, to approve Resolution A715 authorizing a Delta Regional Authority grant application for a proposed reconstruction of portions of Clingman Street and Pennington Street.

If — and only if — the city wins the grant, the rebuilt segments would give large trucks an alternate path to Ouachita Hardwood Flooring and reduce truck traffic through heavily residential areas. Mayor Gregg Reep said Bradley County Judge Klay McKinney supports the effort, and the application is being developed with help from the University of Arkansas at Monticello School of Forestry. Residents raised safety questions near the Human Development Center and pedestrian routes; the mayor said Gannaway Street would not be closed.

In the same meeting the council also approved a drainage master-plan contract with McClelland Engineers for Town Branch and the Meadowview area and heard department reports, including progress on the city’s Safe Haven Baby Box.
