Woodlawn Board Declares Vacancy After Stover’s Death; Weighs Land Buy

The Woodlawn School Board formally declared a vacancy during its regular monthly meeting after the passing of longtime board member David Stover, who served the district for 26 years.

Board President Larry Reynolds said the board is missing a very important member and outlined the appointment process that must be completed within 90 days. The district will publicize the vacancy on its website and through the Cleveland County Herald for at least 30 days before the Oct. 12 appointment meeting. Candidates must reside in the district, complete an application and collect signatures from at least 20 registered voters; petitions are due to the Cleveland County Clerk by Oct. 2. Verified candidates may speak up to five minutes before the board votes.

In the same session, the board discussed possibly buying 33 acres across Smith Road south of campus for $165,000, subject to contingencies.
