The Barton School District is transitioning its senior high program to 8-man football for the 2026 season because it lacks enough players to safely field an 11-man team.
Conference 3A-8 peers — including Drew Central, Dumas, Fordyce, Helena–West Helena Central, Lake Village Lakeside, McGehee and Rison — now have open dates formerly scheduled against Barton. Barton junior high continues 11-man; the varsity will compete in the 8-Man Club division, not AAA-sanctioned 8-man.
