T-Mobile Hometown Grant Gives Pine Bluff $39,650 for Blues Junction Landmark

Pine Bluff Downtown Development Inc. will receive a $39,650 T-Mobile Hometown Grant to create a new landmark celebrating the Arkansas Delta’s musical heritage.

The Blues Junction Experience is planned as a 20-foot monument with public art and interactive digital storytelling to anchor Pine Bluff’s Delta Rhythm & Bayous Cultural District. Organizers say the installation will connect visitors to more than a dozen documented blues heritage sites within walking distance downtown and serve as a trailhead along the multi-state Music Highway toward the B.B. King Museum in Indianola, Miss.

Mayor Vivian Flowers said Pine Bluff was selected from nearly 900 applicants nationwide. Michael McCray of the Pine Bluff Advertising & Promotion Commission called regional revitalization a key tourism strategy for the cultural district. A community celebration accompanied Catfish Friday Blues & Soul Night at the UAPB Incubator on Main Street.
