Cleveland County Identifies Driver in Rison Courthouse Monument Crash

Cleveland County deputies identified an elderly woman as the driver who struck a monument on the Rison courthouse square and left the scene Tuesday evening, the sheriff’s department said.

Deltaplex News reported the update Thursday, citing information from Brad Young of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies got the call about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 6 after a vehicle hit the monument and drove away.

How deputies linked the vehicle

  • Debris: Investigators collected parts at the courthouse square and used part numbers to narrow the vehicle to about model years 2007–2010.
  • Match: About 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, deputies found a vehicle they believe was involved and matched evidence from the square to that vehicle.
  • Driver: After interviews, deputies identified an elderly woman as the driver. The department did not say whether citations or charges had been filed.

Local note

The Cleveland County Courthouse square sits in downtown Rison, a short walk from U.S. Highway 79 and the city’s Veterans Park corridor. The sheriff’s office handles most after-hours collision reports for the county seat and nearby Woodlawn.
