Pine Bluff OKs Permanent Sixth Street Railroad Crossing Closure with Union Pacific

Pine Bluff is making a long-closed rail crossing permanent. At an August council meeting, members approved an agreement with Union Pacific Railroad to permanently close and remove the at-grade crossing at Sixth Street, which officials said had already been closed about six or seven years.

Paperwork initially naming Beach Street sparked confusion; city staff clarified that Beach Street is not being closed and corrected the packet before the vote. Officials also noted the agreement could help Pine Bluff seek an additional $100,000 from the Arkansas Department of Transportation to match railroad funding.

The same session designated the first Saturday of each month as a citywide cleanup and dump day and advanced purchasing-rule changes still pending after public questions about prior financial-control reviews.
