Pine Bluff Advances Bayou Bartholomew Commission on Second Reading

The Pine Bluff City Council on Monday, Sept. 21, heard second reading of an ordinance that would establish a Bayou Bartholomew Commission to guide improvements along the bayou corridor, the Pine Bluff Commercial reported.

The proposed body would have nine members: the mayor and Jefferson County judge as ex officio members; one mayoral appointee; one county-judge appointee; and five at-large members appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council. Members would serve five-year terms with staggered initial appointments.

The commission would oversee operations, set policy, manage budgets and serve as a bridge between project principals and the public, with regular meetings open to attendance and at least quarterly sessions at the start.

The same meeting also advanced a rezoning for about 3.09 acres at 104 N. Bryant St. to B-4 General Commercial and handled separate resolutions on the former Southeast High site, Code Enforcement funding, an Advertising and Promotion Commission appointment, and nuisance-abatement cost certification.
