Guide Weather & Safety · evergreen reference, not a news story · All guides
CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network) trains volunteers to measure precipitation with a standard gauge and report daily. Those observations help fill gaps between official stations across rural SE Arkansas. It is homework for weather nerds — in the best way.
What volunteers actually do
- Register, get a gauge, and place it away from buildings and tree drip lines per guidance.
- Read and report at the local standard time, including zeros.
- Note hail when it happens using the program’s protocols.
Field habit: put the report reminder next to the coffee maker.
