Destination Transformation of Dumas announced progress on its pilot mentoring initiative for ninth-grade students from Marvell-Elaine High School, backed by the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation.
Launched in September, the program pairs each student with a trained mentor for virtual coaching, academic encouragement and personal development through graduation. An April workshop in Dumas focused on communication, goal-setting and self-advocacy. The cohort later toured Little Rock sites including the State Capitol, Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Clinton Presidential Library and the Little Rock Nine National Historic Site.
Executive director Dr. Dorotha Love Hall said early gains in engagement and confidence show why the nonprofit is seeking more partners to expand SEARK youth opportunity. Contact [email protected] for partnership details.
