Drew County Quorum Court Advances Museum Funding, Tables Market Restrooms

The Drew County Quorum Court met Monday, Sept. 14, under County Judge Jessie Griffin with a long agenda covering finances, the Drew County Museum, the farmers market, landfill fuel and utility right-of-way rules.

Justices approved Appropriation Ordinance 2026-37 for the museum commission and discussed a joint city-county visit so officials can hear the facility’s full needs. Treasurer Charlie Searcy reported the county’s June sales-tax collection (received in July) was the highest on record, with the quarter-cent sales-tax fund near $7.8 million.

A $13,495 matching grant for farmers-market restroom improvements was tabled until matching funds and total costs are clearer; a double restroom unit (~$3,200) is already under the pavilion. The court also completed first reading of a proposed permit ordinance for utilities working in county road rights of way as fiber and other underground lines expand.
