A 59-year-old Crossett woman died when a Freightliner truck hit her car at a rural Ashley County intersection on Sept. 15. Details came out Sept. 28 in an Arkansas State Police preliminary crash report.
The report names her as Mary Nell Ray. It puts the crash at about 8:13 p.m. where Ashley County Road 15 meets Arkansas 133. Ray was eastbound on the county road in a 2014 Nissan Altima. The report says she failed to stop at the intersection, and a 2024 Freightliner northbound on Highway 133 struck her car.
The Freightliner’s driver, Richard Staten, 63, of Alexandria, La., was hurt and taken to LSU Ochsner. The report does not say how seriously he was injured, and it does not say whether anyone was cited. It lists clear weather and a dry road.
The Ashley County Sheriff’s Office investigated. Because this is a preliminary report, details could change as the investigation continues.
