Bradley County Lands $187,000 Grant for Courthouse Backup Generator

Bradley County Judge Klay McKinney told the Quorum Court on Monday, August 17, that the county has been awarded a $187,000 state grant for a courthouse generator project that requires an approximately 25% in-kind match (~$47,000).

Officials said backup power is needed so the courthouse — a critical county facility — can stay online during outages and severe weather, noting equipment and installation costs have risen since the project was first scoped.

The same meeting heard UAM’s Dr. Matthew Pelkki outline a proposed DRA-funded truck reroute serving Ouachita Hardwood (about 83 employees and an estimated $30 million in annual wood-product shipments), stressing the grant is not yet awarded. McKinney also updated members on road striping (roughly 30,000–35,000 feet per year), landfill-cell paperwork and related drainage and access work.
