MONTICELLO — At the Jan. 29, 2026, City Council meeting — the city’s first of the year — Mayor Jason Akers delivered the annual State of the City address after council action on organizational resolutions, 2025 budget adjustments, 2026 budgets and an architectural contract for renovating the former fire station at City Hall, according to public meeting coverage and the city’s published agenda/minutes index.
Akers reported $1,234,994 in 2025 grants across airport, police/fire, parks and sidewalks; more than $200,000 in new water meters; completed wastewater plant upgrades; and 36 paving projects including Tracy Drive, Glenwood Drive and Rebecca Circle. He said tracked crashes fell from 489 in 2019 to 241 and cited year-end cash and CD balances totaling about $15.9 million.
