The Barbara D. Weaver Family Scholarship has been endowed in the UAM Foundation Fund at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Weaver’s granddaughter, Lauren Weaver, established it with a $15,000 gift.
The scholarship supports full- or part-time students in UAM’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, with preference for social work majors. Non-traditional students may receive additional consideration, and financial need will be taken into account.
Barbara Weaver enrolled at UAM at 47 as a non-traditional student, earned a B.S. in social work in 2004 summa cum laude, then a Master of Social Work at UALR. She served as a social worker with Delta Counseling Associates, Mainline Health Systems and CHI St. Vincent North, and her family notes she secured a $2 million grant for the City of Dumas to build the Family Investment Center. She died Aug. 20, 2023.
