Guide Civics & Government · evergreen reference, not a news story · All guides
Many Arkansas counties fund a Veterans Service Officer (VSO) who helps veterans and families navigate benefits paperwork — appointments, record packets, and referrals. They are not a replacement for VA clinicians, but they are often the shortest path from “I do not know where to start” to a filed claim packet.
What to bring
- DD-214 / separation papers if you have them (ask about replacements if not).
- List of conditions and prior claim numbers if any.
- Spouse/dependent documents when relevant.
Field habit: ask the VSO which accredited reps they work with — accreditation matters.
