Bradley County voters can now see what will be on their Nov. 3 ballots. Saline River News reported Tuesday on the county’s official ballot proof, a 30-page document with 15 different ballot styles. The styles differ because of city limits, precincts and State House district lines. The document is stamped “PROOF,” so the lineup could still change.
Top of the ticket. Three candidates are running for governor: Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Republican), Fred Love (Democrat) and Colt Shelby (Libertarian). The U.S. Senate race lists Hallie Shoffner (Democrat), Tom Cotton (Republican) and Jeff Wadlin (Libertarian). Bradley County is in Congressional District 4, where Bruce Westerman (Republican) and James “Rus” Russell III (Democrat) are on the ballot.
Other statewide races. Leslie Rutledge (Republican) and Michael Kalagias (Libertarian) are running for lieutenant governor. Secretary of State has three names: Kim Hammer (Republican), Kelly Grappe (Democrat) and Michael Pakko (Libertarian). Commissioner of State Lands is between Cole Jester (Republican) and Christopher Olson (Libertarian). Tim Griffin, John Thurston and Dennis Milligan are the only candidates listed for attorney general, treasurer and auditor.
Four statewide issues. The proof lists the four measures the Legislature sent to voters: a “Citizens Only Voting Amendment” (Issue 1), a constitutional amendment on the right to keep and bear arms (Issue 2), a proposal letting lawmakers create economic development districts in cities, counties and cooperative areas (Issue 3), and a water, waste disposal and pollution abatement financing act that would allow up to $500 million in state general obligation bonds (Issue 4).
Local and legislative races. Voters in the county will also take part in a special election for State Senate District 1, where Tomeka Butler (Democrat) faces Harrell Wilson (Republican). The county is split between State House districts 94 and 96. In District 94, John Kyle Day (Republican) is the only candidate listed. In District 96, Sonia E. Barker (Republican) is the only one listed.
For Bradley County Judge, Andrew C. Pritt (Democrat) faces Wayne Wesson (Republican). Cindy Wagnon (Republican) is the lone name for circuit clerk. Warren’s mayor race lists one candidate, Gregg Reep, an independent. Banks lists Keeton Hudson, also an independent and unopposed. Hermitage has a contested mayor’s race among three independents: Matthew Cathey, Karla Ramos and Clare Mae Ortiz.
The ballot also includes an “Unopposed Candidates” choice; the proof says marking it casts a vote for every unopposed candidate not listed elsewhere on that ballot. Saline River News posted the full proof with its story.
