An Arkansas250 historic marker honoring Chief Saracen and the Quapaw Nation was unveiled Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at Saracen Landing near the start of the Lake Saracen Walking Trail in Pine Bluff’s Regional Park.
Quapaw Nation Chair Jesse Manz McKibben read the “Quapaw Treaty of 1824” marker text; tribal historic preservation officer Billie Burtrum and culture director Everett Bandy spoke on Quapaw history and removal. Mayor Vivian Flowers said the city must tell the full story behind Saracen’s name. Presenters included the Quapaw Nation, the city of Pine Bluff and its Advertising and Promotion Commission, and the Arkansas250 Commission.
