AGFC, AEDC Open $690,000-Plus Wildlife Education Grants for Schools

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s Division of Rural Services are offering more than $690,000 to Arkansas schools for conservation education this year, funded entirely by hunting and fishing violation fines, AGFC announced Sept. 15.

AGFC Chief of Education Mary Beth Hatch said roughly $536,000 comes from last year’s fine collections, with more than $150,000 rolling over from prior unclaimed or unfinished grants. Fine money collected in each county is set aside for grants in that county through AEDC Rural Services.

Teachers and administrators have until Nov. 12 to apply at arkansasedc.com (Rural Services grants). Typical uses include outdoor classrooms, equipment for School of Conservation Leadership projects, Generation Conservation Summit travel, and field trips to AGFC nature centers — including Delta Rivers Nature Center in Pine Bluff — plus Archery in the Schools and youth shooting sports support.

County-by-county available amounts and program details are posted on agfc.com.
