A new mural honoring Engine 123 — the historic steam locomotive at Warren City Park — was unveiled Friday, July 27, on the city’s former street department shop.
Local art teacher KeyAira Brown, who teaches at Brunson Elementary and Warren Middle School, painted the locomotive’s black engine, red cab and Southern Lumber Company tender across the building’s exterior doors. The 4-6-0 “Ten-Wheeler” was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1907, later ran for Southern Lumber between Warren and Banks, and was moved to the park in November 1955 before a 2012 restoration.
Council members Chanel Hooper and Dorothy Henderson attended the unveiling with other civic leaders. Hooper thanked Parks and Recreation, the council and Mayor Gregg Reep, noting the building is expected to become available for community rentals — linking the renovated shop to a familiar piece of Bradley County railroad and timber history.
